Why 'sic'?

The article says "USS Louisiana, a ship "criticized for her rotten condition, [Louisiana gave] a good account of herself [sic] at the Battle of New Orleans." Why 'sic'? Mcswell (talk) 21:56, 23 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The {{sic}} template is surrounding the gendering ("herself") of USS Louisiana, so I would guess it was to clearly indicate that language is from the original source and neither unintentional nor intentional florid language on the part of Wikipedia editors. Odd that it isn't either (a) also added to the gendered language earlier in the quote, or (b) surrounding the whole quote. Either way, this article probably has too many unnecessary quotations as is (IAW MOS:QUOTE), so I've rewritten the sentence to need neither the actual quote nor {{sic}} template(s). — Fourthords | =Λ= | 22:15, 23 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
